John Donne :: essays research papers

John Donne John Donne was a writer with exceptional talent and had an intense feeling about all that he wrote. In the beginning of his life he was a charming man who , was accepted by royalty because of his personality and writing ability. Having been employed by one of the queen’s highly regarded men , he worked and associated with the high class royalty. Donne’s life and job lead him to meet and eventually marry his employer’s daughter. This couple caused scandal due to the classifications of the two people. Having lost his job because of this and also not being able to obtain steady employment the family lived in poverty for years. Donne held low class secretary jobs and wrote during this time , but lack of financial security kept them where they where in life. He , by writing with the motivation from the love of his wife , became one of the most widely read writers of the time. As time went on Anne passed away and Donne was left with the children. He soon was elect ed dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral , became a famous speaker , he used the motivation of God and the church to fuel his writing. Much of Donne’s poetry was written for his wife and was very intense due to the love he felt for her. In "The Canonization" Donne tries to fight why he cannot love Anne and asks what is the matter with his love , for he sees it as true. He writes in a civil manner asking if his love has hurt anyone , if the intensity that he loves her has ever injured anyone. Never fearing what others say or do to the couple he bases the security of his life on their love. He ponders why people are worrying about their love when awful people are committing horrible acts throughout the world. He says that they are one and nothing could break them apart. Not wanting to be bothered anymore and yearning to live free with his love he wonders if people will approve and , though his love will not die , fears that the impact of the world will destroy their bond. During his years without his wife Donne wrote about the love of the church and the Lord. Much like the prior years in intensity and feeling , but with a different object of affection.

Criteria for Capital Lease

A lease is an agreement for the purchase of assets whereby a person or company purchases assets through financing from another party which may be the manufacturer or direct owner of the asset or some financial institution such as a bank.Lease is also a rent agreement whereby a person or company agrees to rent an asset for a certain period of time. The party renting or purchasing these assets is known as a lessee. The lease agreement with respect to a lessee is classified into two categories which are capital lease and operating lease. The rent agreement is usually known as operating lease whereas the purchase agreement is usually known as non-operating lease or capital lease. Though the purchase agreements are usually known as capital leases some other conditions have to be met for the lease to be classified as a capital lease. A lease can be classified as a capital lease if it is non-cancelable and meets one of the four following criteria:1. At the end of a lease agreement the owners hip of the leased asset is transferred effectively from the lessor to the lessee.2. There may be a provision for a purchase of the leased asset by the lessee at a price lower than the market value of the asset at the end of the lease agreement.3. The time duration of the lease agreement is greater than or equal to 75 percent of original life of the asset.4. The present value of the total lease payments should be greater than or equal to 90 percent of the fair value of the asset (Brigham & Ehrhardt, 2001).One of the criteria for classifying a lease is the factor of present value of lease payments. This calculation is based on the discounting rate of the company which is an estimate and not an actual rate. The rate is estimated based on the next period lease payments or the total lease payments either using a constant rate or a declining rate. The present values calculated under the different assumptions may yield varying present values. As the present values calculated are based on as sumptions and do not reflect the actual values it would be difficult to compare the present value of the minimum lease payments with the fair value of the asset (White, Sondhi, & Fried, 2002).Operating Lease or Capital LeaseThe classification of lease as operating or non-operating affects the long term liabilities and the shareholders’ equity of the firm. The difference in the liabilities and shareholders’ equity entails a difference in the debt/equity ratio of a firm. If the company classifies the lease as capital lease it would result in a lower net income than the income reported with operating lease. The lease payments under operating lease are included in operating expenses and are not included in the liabilities section of the balance sheet. Operating lease is not shown on the balance sheet as a liability and results in a higher net income thus companies would prefer to classify the lease as an operating lease to reflect higher net income and a lower debt/equity r atio. If the company chooses to record the lease as capital lease the lease payments would reduce the amount of net income and the total amount of lease will be included in the noncurrent liabilities.A decrease in net income would mean a decrease in retained earnings and eventually a lower shareholders’ equity with higher long-term debts which would increase the debt/equity ratio of the company. The companies would prefer to classify leases as operating leases to benefit from the higher net income and a lower debt/equity ratio (Damodaran, 2005).References Brigham, E., & Ehrhardt, M. (2001). Health Care System Analysis - 707 Words

The salient aim of the health care system is to provide patients with superlative care and medical treatment. However, it has been established that healthcare workers often have to subsist with poorly designed equipment, which hinders their ability to provide optimum care for patients and often leads to life threatening medical errors (West et al. 2014). To combat this problem, the design team, West et al., employed an interdisciplinary, evidence based approach to â€Å"Design out Medical Error† (DOME) from health care systems. One of the areas arising from this tasks included redesigning five high risk processes defined by hospital staff and patients. The advantage of addressing multiple processes at once, is that an integrated solution could†¦show more content†¦Gradually, the salient ideas emerged and they were continually refined until the concept of the â€Å"CareCentre† was proposed, which addressed the high risk processes of hand hygiene and prevention o f infection. At this time, the design team interviewed over 100 healthcare workers to devise and implement the first prototype. Although the design was successful at this stage, it underwent three further rounds of feedback which continued to refine the â€Å"CareCentre† design. The testing stage was then implemented by asking nurses to perform common clinical tasks in a simulated ward environment. Those with access to the â€Å"CareCentre† utilised the WHO moments of hand hygiene more often and more correctly used gloves and aprons, than those without. Our evaluation From this case study, we have extracted relevant aspects to implement in our design process and evaluated their usefulness in assisting with creating a suitable final solution. For example, the interdisciplinary approach used by West et al. (2014), evidently produced an all encompassing final design, by allow the various team members to lead the discussion in the areas where their skills were relevant. We hope to incorporate this into our method to gain the fresh perspectives of people from other areas of expertise which may have been overlooked by a narrow focus. Where to use mean, median or mode to make a decision Free Essays

Measures of average are also called measures of central tendency. Their purpose is to provide a numerical figure which may describe the level of entire distribution. For example let five students be awarded marks as follows. We will write a custom essay sample on Where to use mean, median or mode to make a decision or any similar topic only for you Order Now 10, 11,9,12 and 13. All these scores are different from each other but at least there is one such score to which the rest of the scores standby or nearby. There are three measures of central tendency as follows; mean, median and mode (Srivastava et al. , 1989). These are used at different occasions when making a decision for example when the administration of the state is requiring to collect and analyze data related to population and material wealth of the country for the purpose of planning and finance. Mean can be used when making the instructional decisions. This can be used by a teacher to get the knowledge about the student’s entry behavior and background; in this case the distribution should be normal meaning all the scores should be present. By getting the mean of the student’s scores, the teacher will be able to identify the teaching technique to use according to their strengths and weaknesses. Consequently, the mean should be used when the teacher is evaluating the degree to which the objectives have to be achieved so that he/she will be able to encourage good study behavior among the students. Incase the scores are scattered the mean must be used so that all the scores are brought together to enable decision making to take place may be about the performance. Median should be used for guidance decisions. Students should be guided in their vocational choices; educational performance and their personal problems therefore median can be used to determine the average performer in class and can be advised accordingly. At the same time, median is used to make guidance decisions especially when a quick and easily computed measure is required to provide the data about significant characteristics which can help a certain group of people to understand themselves better. Mode should be used in research decisions in the sense that for any research to be carried out there must be collecting of the data on the issue at hand. After collecting the data, scoring, and analysis should be done and interpretation of the whole information given. When the information is incomplete mode must be used. It is also used when one wants to know the fashion of the most recurring measure or score. How to cite Where to use mean, median or mode to make a decision, Papers

Quality Management Theory and Practice

Question: Discuss about the Quality Management Theory and Practice. Answer: Introduction Organizations over the centuries have been shaped and reshaped, and a lot has been written about how to make organizations competent and effectual. Management theories concerns proper management practices and strategies. These theories started emerging in the early twentieth century and have evolved through ages to present the modern management theories. The objectives of forming these theories are to present with a stable direction in understanding the experiences and determine relevancy. They also assist in communicating efficiently and learning about the world (Huarng Ribeiro-Soriano, 2014). Evolution and Evaluation Organizations and management are results of the ancient times and societies. Management theory is the evolution of peoples relationship struggles throughout history and from that, one can understand how to steer the future of formal organizations. Frederick W. Taylors Scientific Management: Frederick Taylor proposed scientific management as a process that employs the scientific method principles to management functions to determine the best ways to execute tasks and share the benefits. He opined that removal of unnecessary responsibilities from the job roles of employees would provide productive outcomes (Witzel Warner, 2015). His philosophy was based on four principles: Development of a proper scientific method for management of task execution Scientific selection of employees to determine who is best for what Scientific education and advancement of employees Cooperation and collaboration among management and labor force (Shafritz, Ott Jang, 2015). McDonalds can be taken as an example of an organization that effectively employs scientific management in its production department. In all branches of McDonalds, uniformity could be seen in their food preparation, maintenance, staff appraisals and other operational functions. Due to its ability to serve effectively standard food and services all across the world, McDonalds has been able to become one of the biggest restaurant chains. McDonalds business operations include a reward and promotion system for employees who meet goals and are recognized by management for their contribution. McDonalds very own Hamburger University is the perfect example for supporting staff trainings in organizations. At that University employees are provided with management training, operations advancement knowledge, equipment handling training and communication skills development courses. At McDonalds, every employee perform their individual job, what they are best at, and the system is uniform in all ou tlets to ensure high quality level everywhere. Uniformity can be seen in their equipments, ingredients and even customer interaction. However, the workers also fear that layoffs might happen due to exhaustion of available tasks because of improved work execution. In addition, sometimes employees feel the pressure of overload. Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Human Needs: Abraham Maslow proposed the human needs theories with the aim of capturing human behavior complexity adequately. He believed human actions and reactions exist in the direction of goal achievement. His Hierarchy of Needs is a representative hierarchical pyramid of five stages. The idea is to satisfy lower level needs prior to higher-level ones. He argued that motivation for humans comes from these five fundamental needs (Maslow, 2013). The different levels of the pyramid are as follows: Self actualization consisting of integrity, ingenuity, autonomy, problem solving and so on Esteem consisting of poise, self-respect, attainment, admiration, perks and so on Belongingness consisting of affection, friendship, familiarity, cooperativeness and so on Safety consisting of environmental security, service, assets, welfare, property and so on Physiological consisting of air, water, food, sleep, physical intimacy, stability and so on (Kremer Hammond, 2013) Tesco is a good example of an organization that follows the hierarchy needs and motivational theory of Maslow. They aim to motivate their employees and pays attention to their safety and hygiene. They encourage timely communication, delegate responsibilities and involve staffs in decision-making. There are separate forums for staff for discussions and practices rewards and recognition system. The staff has the authority to influence the menus, and has the freedom to make choices that can help improve the productivity of their organization. It also provides opportunities to its employees to contribute to their employment and take interest to improve it. Reviews display abilities and achievement of every employee, enabling identification of potential. Tesco is benefitted by assurance of better customer service along with advancing career progression for its employees. William Demings Total Quality Management: Demings is credited with the popularization of the total quality management concept, a concept that deals with implementation of total quality management and is an assortment of management practices that are used by organizations to improve their quality and productivity. It consists of 14 points on management philosophy that organizations follow for quality transformation (Gimenez-Espin, Jimnez-Jimnez Martnez-Costa, 2013). They are as follows: Create a constant reason towards improvement of merchandise and offerings Adopt the brand new philosophy Stop relying on inspections for first-class Use a single provider for any individual object for rate minimization Enhance consistently and ceaselessly in every approach Use training on the job Implement leadership Do away with worry Damage down barriers between departments Get rid of unclear slogans, exhortation and objectives Get rid of management by objectives Cast off limitations to satisfaction of workmanship Put in force schooling and self-development applications Make "transformation" all people's purpose (Luburi?, 2014) Toyota Motors is known worldwide for directly addressing Total Quality Management (TQM) and has received many prestigious awards for quality management. Toyota prioritizes customers while following the concept of TQM, facilitating involvement and contribution of all employees of the organization. They have implemented systems to back and motivate employees into making significant contributions towards the development of the organization (Mitra, 2016). They have a separate quality control group that ensures society-based projects and environmental initiatives, calling it kaizen. All these practices in Toyotas production department have ensured superior quality products and services for the company, along with improvement in all departments, both individual and service. They strive always to remove waste, over production and encourage employee participation. Their bureaucratic system helps employees contribute ideas for improvements, especially long-term ones. Conclusion Management theories are carried out to aid expand organizational productivity and service first-class. Now not many managers use a novel theory or thought when implementing systems within the workplace: They most likely use a combo of a quantity of theories, depending on the office, reason and body of workers. Nevertheless, the aim of all the organization remains the same develop and enhance productivity. References Gimenez-Espin, J. A., Jimnez-Jimnez, D., Martnez-Costa, M. (2013).
